75 years ago, we as a nation fought against the British to rid us of their rule with the help of coveted freedom fighters leading us all. Today, however, humanity as a whole is fighting against another invasion and many selfless warriors are fighting in the front lines in a rather different battle field. My most favourite compositions of Lalgudi sir is this sparkling tillana in Tilang Raga. There was a time I was absolutely mesmerized with this piece, so much so, that I ended up learning this from one of his own recordings. The madhyama shruti creates an absolute magical touch to the already enchanting song. I hope you enjoy this presentation. Some of the fondest memories I have from my student days are the hours I spent learning Lalgudi sir's compositions from Viji Akka. Sir's compositions have always been a great source of inspiration in my journey as a musician. I cannot express in words, my gratitude and pranams to Viji Akka for sharing these treasures. Akka had also told me that I should have sung these in front of mama himself. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity. However I am happy that I have been singing a tillana of mama in every single concert of mine. Sri Valli - Natabhairavi - Papanasam Sivan Margazhi is such a special time for both artists and rasikas and all of us look forward to this time of the year with so much anticipation and excitement. This year has been a different experience for us with the 'hybrid mode' and we are trying to adapt to this to the best we can. It had been a difficult year with us not being able to meet in person at concerts and I am sure that we all still wish to go back to the real deal with meeting, greeting and dining and revelling in the true magic of the Margazhi season.
